Some people want a magic pill for everything, a quick fix to their problems...but it won't be for several years until some mastermind creates that, so for now let's go the natural self-care route! Meditation is by no means that fast cure to illness, but it is a proven health practice that has been used for centuries. By mediating for as little as 10 minutes out of your 24 hour-day, you can reduce stress significantly over time. Not only that, many medical professionals recommend it as a daily regimen to assist in improving overall health and generally lengthening one's lifespan.

Anxiety Annihilation!

1. Control Anxiety

Woooooooossaaaaaaahhhhh....The slow, deep breathing used in a meditation sessions relaxes the mind and body. Frequent moments of total peace and calmness paired with increased oxygen to the brain helps to reduce rapid or paranoid thoughts, social anxiety, phobias, obsessive-compulsive behaviors and panic attacks.

2. Reduce Stress

When triggered by stressors, your body releases inflammatory chemicals like cortisol that can cause muscle tension, headaches, nausea, skin irritations, or fatigue. When a person practices meditation, the body counteracts those "bad"chemicals by releasing the "feel good" ones, like endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine. As a result, your body has a sense of balance and euphoria. When you feel stressed just take a few minutes to yourself for a quick meditation sesh.

Okay now, time to get happy! Meditation can lead to a more positive outlook on life, which leads to a more positive perception of yourself and others. If the world around you is seen as beautiful, why be angry or cry? Positive perception is worth smiling over! You will be able to regulate your mood and be more happy and kind to yourself and others...AND you can combat depression!

They will have more restful nights because they will have eliminated tension, mental clutter, and reduced anxiety with meditative practice.

5. Lengthen Attention Span

Short attention spans are common but if they leave you incessantly restless or forgetful of important dates and priorities it is time to have an intervention with yourself and be open to help. A medical professional may be needed, but you can always start with self-help and create a routine that includes meditation. Meditation has the potential to reverse patterns in the brain that contribute to worrying, mind-wandering, and poor attention. Chose a length of time you are comfortable with (maybe 1 to 5 minutes) and increase that gradually. You will be proud of yourself. Most meditation sessions are less than 30 minutes. So no need to work up to more than that unless you choose to. You will get the same benefits as in 10 to 25 minute sessions.
